Chickering 109

Chickering 109c c1895 # 80857 6’-3”, 88 note, Erard action, yacht tail Parlor Grand. As evidenced by the wide bass cheek block, there is a 6” soundboard extension along the straight side of the case, bringing the width of the piano to 61”. This extra real estate develops exceptional warm bass and tenor even though the piano is less than 7’.

All functional parts fully restored in 2021. New low compression soundboard, bridge caps, pin blocks, Paulello nickel plated plain wire, Paulello core copper wrapped strings and soft iron wraps in transition areas at the high bass.

Ronsen Bacon felt hammers. Single offset Keys fully restored, shimmed and spaced with Tharan mineral plastic keytops. Original flared keys retained. WNG composite parts. We chose to replace the action parts in this piano for two reasons: 1- we had not started to reproduce our own action parts yet, and 2- the existing parts were more seriously challenged than usual. So action parts are new. Chickering original leverage respected.
